I have little experience of American bars - other that a few I visited whilst in Manhattan. But surely one thing that American pubs cannot out do English / British Pubs on is the History. There is a pub not two miles from where I live that was built in 1550. It has a "Plotting Room, " where some of the citizens of this place where I live banded together and conspired to prevent the King of England ( Charles I ) from entering the city gate. Half the pubs in England are older than The United States, and they do have fascinating histories.

There are different styles of pubs in the UK. The atmosphere in a pub when a football match (soccer game) is being played is electric. Dunno if you've visited in the football season. But it is extremely good. And its not hard to find a pub that serves chicken wings.

Since you have 6 times the population and 75 times the land area of l'l ol' England it's not surprising that you have nearly triple the number of microbreweries is it? But that same statistic also shows which country has the true brewing culture, ingrained for centuries.

I think the argument about microbrews being 3 times as high in U.S. Is unfair. The size of Britain compared to U.S. Is monstrous and per square mile Britain surely has more for being near 40 times smaller

Nothing more cringey than an American talking about beer

I'd go even further and say that Europeans together are better at making a good drinking atmosphere.

You say the us has triple the amount of micro breweries that England has but don’t take into consideration that America’s land mass is 76x bigger and its population is 5x that of England

I am an American who lived in England in the 80’s. It’s not even remotely close. English public houses are by far and wide the best! Cask conditioned ales on hand pump ; nothing remotely like it even in this age of cutesy beer styles these days, some of which are very good but no where near real ales on a beer engine( minus England’s equivalent of Budweiser and Miller aka Newcastle, etc. Most American bars including “brew pups” are sterile , no real character or depth. Then you add the rich history and unique ambience of most every English pub and it’s just not remotely close. If it’s not an authentic English style pub in America it’s a bar which has a completely different feeling. Pubs are on every other corner in all of England, usually in the heart of a neighborhood where patrons come with their family, best friends, dogs and have a few pints together. Food is awesome as well!!! IMO

If you like cider then I recommend the best from the home of cider (West Country uk) a cool pint of Blackthorn.

In my travels, as a young man, I visited many seaports on America's eastern seaboard and the gulf. The bars that I visited, which were numerous, varied in their friendliness, or lack of it, to we Brits. At the time, 1960's we British were not popular in the southern states, Texas especially - taking the blame for the civil unrest and the civil rights movement. It had something to do with how welcome and friendly the British were to the Black American troops when they were shipped to the UK in WW2. The further north we went, the more friendly the locals were. New Jersey and New York was quite a surprise - we were really made welcome in the bars and made many friends. The beer however was not to everyones' taste - there was Guinness to be had - boy, did that save the day! It's a long time ago. Maybe things have changed. Maybe, as a Brit, I would be welcome in a Boston bar by now - but I wouldn't bet on it!

Our bars/pubs here in America are great - I never doubt that. But at least we now use pint glasses instead of those little things we used before.

"In-fact....we have 3x as many micro-brew's in the US and they do in the England" The US also has well over 5x the population of the England and probably about 150x the size of the England; so no, we have more per person and in closer proximity's, and that's what counts when I wanta beer ;)

A lot of pubs in the UK are depressing old little places where you think "I would not be proud to own this place", but a genuinely nice town pub or big country pub cannot be beaten. Similarly I suppose the typical American sports bar is awful whereas there are nicer bars out there.

A pub is far better than an American bar. Atmosphere, quality of drinks, and aesthetic is far superior.

Who’s british and goes to the pub to watch your local football team play?

Most of our "imported alcohol" are brewed in the UK so.... plus as a lot of other comments have said most pubs are older then America I have a lot of pubs in my local area built in the 1700s

Oh - and in some bars here in America they stay open to 2 or 4 AM.
