Tungsten Rainbow Dart

Detailed instructions for tying a mash-up of Lance Egan flies called the Tungsten Rainbow Dart.
Recipe:
Hook: Barbless jig hook (here, a Lightning Strike JF2), sizes 12-16. 
Bead: Silver slotted tungsten bead, 7/64-inch. 
Weight: Lead-free round wire, .015. 
Thread: Red, 8/0 or 70-denier. 
Rib: Silver Ultra Wire, small. 
Tail: Red saddle-hackle fibers.
Abdomen: Rainbow Sow-Scud Dubbing. 
Wingcase: Opal Mirage Tinsel. 
Thorax: Peacock herl.

After a 2.5 year hiatus, I finally go back into fly tying and fishing this spring. Yesterday, this pattern fooled a 20" brown in my local waters, my biggest fish in almost 3 years. This may become my new confidence pattern. Previously it was your simple crane fly larva. Thanks again for another great pattern!

Always great vid. A note on bead headed fly's in general, if have a tie that "want to do" and have no bead that has the right slot for it, invest in a cheapie dremel tool and the thin cutting blades and can slot any bead at all to fit.

You have the most concise, no-nonsense tying videos going. One question/observation though; it looks as though the wing case would be under the fly when in action. Is this intentional? A quick 180 degree rotation before tying the mylar in would remedy that and not be overly difficult. Keep up the brilliant tying tutorials.

Looks like a great fly! Is there a particular reason you prefer to use peacock herl as opposed to UV peacock ice dub for the thorax? Asking out of curiosity.
