Vocal coach and metal vocalist, Mary Zimmer, brings another reaction video to the Voicehacks channel! Today we'll be taking a look at the pleasantly surprising vocals of Leprous' Einar Solberg. I listen to the song "Below" for the first time and give my impressions on it as both a voice teacher and vocalist. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and recommendations!!

The incredible thing is that he sounds JUST as good live.

If you're interested in checking Leprous out again, there is a song on their newest album where Einar basically employs the full extent of his vocal capabilities. The whole song, "Nighttime Disguise, " feels like a good representation of Leprous as a whole.

"This is probably the cleanest thing that I have reacted to in a while" Hahah Glad you liked it, since I was one of the people that suggested it. That belting/falsetto switch he does is outstanding. He has done growls in other songs as well, but their later stuff is more mellow. Nice review/commentary as always and I think you have also upped your game in editing!

His head voice is so connected and his transitions flawless . This is not pure falcetto it definitely have a mix in there. Definitely one of my favorite of the last decade !

I'm still catching up on your material, and am SO glad to see a Leprous review. I actually just covered "Stuck" from their prior album, and would love to figure out how Einar does his harsh vocals in their other content. Slowly learning from you and others that singing harsh does NOT mean you'll destroy your voice, and I'm loving exploring that, myself (I come from a classical background).

This vocalist is the brother-in-law of Ihsahn of Emperor. That's why the two collaborate so much.

The most impressive in this guy is that he is a metalhead in heart. Keyboards and backing vocals in Emperor for a few times. 2006 Wacken appearance of Emperor (lots of videos in YouTube) . Thank me later. 😉

Their demos are heavy as hell, but there is one demo, Aeolus Shadow where Einar hit a C6. Einars voice is insane and has been even since he was young. His mother taught him as she was a classical vocalist instructor.
