Brazil hits grim new Covid death record - BBC News

Brazil has recorded more than 4,000 Covid-related deaths in 24 hours for the first time, as a more contagious variant fuels a surge in cases.

Hospitals are overcrowded, with people dying as they wait for treatment in some cities, and the health system is on the brink of collapse in many areas.

The country's total death toll is now almost 337,000, second only to the US.

But President Jair Bolsonaro continues to oppose any lockdown measures to curb the outbreak.

He argues that the damage to the economy would be worse than the effects of the virus itself, and has tried to reverse some of the restrictions imposed by local authorities in the courts.

I'm Brazilian, and I can relate everything. Our president has been denying the pandemic since March 2020, when the situation began in Brazil. Our people do not wear masks and neither respect the social distancing. Crowdings are often happening among the country, causing the higher risk of transmition. In other hand, people are starving and becoming poorer. The blame is carried by our government and by the people who are not aware of the dangers of covid-19. Stay safe, guys!

People need to start taking Vitamin d pills. And rub a little bit of bacitracin ointment in the nose near the sinuses. The bacitracin ointment will help keep the sinuses moist & the bacitracin ointment will keep the sinuses from drying up from covid 19. And good oral health care will also keep covid at bay.

Is very sad. In my city, people walk without a mask as if there were no pandemic, and the hospital collapsed. Doctors having to choose who lives and who dies and these people thronging at parties. People have no respect for anyone, not even for themselves!
