Forming Agile Teams With Value in Mind

Encapsulated Agile teams are a fundamental need if we want to be Agile. But there’s more we need to be thinking about.

The trouble is that we can have teams doing Scrum but still not really creating any value. So what we really need is teams that are oriented toward value—teams that are aligned with our customers and markets.

It’s about focusing on maximizing how our people are oriented toward value and can also produce it. Then we have teams that can propel us toward the outcomes we want rather than becoming a dependency that blocks us from our goals.

A problem I often see is that folks who spend their time in tools related to backlogs believe that the items there are the work, and thus the only remaining ingredient is figuring out who is “doing it” - this mindset is one of the most difficult to address, IMO.
