Hit The Deck (1955) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #HitTheDeck

Hollywood musicals have always known what to do with sailors on leave: give ’em some pretty girls and some great songs and watch the fans line up to enlist! Hit the Deck hits all the right notes as three sailors (Tony Martin, Vic Damone, Russ Tamblyn) and three cuties (Jane Powell, Debbie Reynolds, Ann Miller) flirt, squabble, run afoul of shore patrol and of course, fall in love to a hit parade of Vincent Youmans tunes.

Directed By Roy Rowland
Starring Jane Powell, Tony Martin, Debbie Reynolds

God I love the dresses with the sky blue pettiskirts, it's beautiful color combo with the lighter gold.

Isn't that fabulous! It sends shivers down the spine watching. I wonder if such wonderful entertainment will ever come back into fashion.

The main singers are amazing as always, but can we talk about the background harmonies as well. This movie was wonderful all around!

Goodbye Jane Powell. 😔 One of the last living stars from this era just died. She and the other ladies here were so wonderful.

Always been a big fan of Tony Martin and his marvelous voice. I had assumed he was an Italian-American, looked him up recently and- surprise! He's of Polish extraction. Rest in Peace, Tony and Cyd!

There was a time that when we went out the theatre we were happy singing and dancing with the world. Oh God how I miss those days.

Ann Miller I thought was a brilliant dancer who never really got the fame she deserved -could dance a lot of so called stars of the day off the stage - such talent!!!

Revoir ça après 65 ans c'est prodigieux. Je l'ai vu quand j'avais 15 ans en 1959 dans la grande salle de cinéma du casino de Blankenberghe. Je n'ai jamais oublié le bonheur de ce film.

‘Hit the Deck” and “Kiss Me Kate” are my two favourite M.G.M. musicals and they both feature the divine Ann Miller.

Apart from Gigi, this was really the last of the big MGM studio musicals, and what a treat it was. Even the sound quality was perfect.

Now, this is what I call a musical. Talent exploding all over the place! It's like Ann Miller has restless leg syndrome. I love it. ❤🎉

I have a cassette of Kay Armen and me singing. I met her when I was in my teens.

The lead singer in the turquoise dress is KAR ARMEN... Armenians can be very proud of her talent!
