I imagine it would be quite difficult to create a functioning rocket using one of these engines. At their current state they require an immense amount of gas to be put through them, and I'm not sure how you would get enough to make it last more than a few moments when not connected to an external supply.

Imagine a tiny one, powering a turbine, in a vehicle, powering an electric generator. The whole package could be very small, the thing could be sealed in a water jacket and be virtually silent. We can scale this technology down quite easily, and then at that smaller scale, cooling and strong materials can become quite robust.
I want to build a test concept of this. Imagine the whole thing encased in cooling and insulation, and just putting away for hours in your garage, charging vehicle battery, and backpowering your home in emergencies. Being able to burn just about anything solves a huge issue too, being able to decompose normally dirty or difficult to dispose of hydrocarbons, waste oil, might be able to be done with this technology.

In terrestrial vehicle use, with our new upcoming solid state batteries, one could imagine the underhood device simply cycling on and off based on variable demand.
