Interesting point about vendors around the temple getting revenue, I heard from a guest lecturer on ancient temples of Tamil Nadu who said that temples were spots of splendid economic activity, it wasn't just about worship but also about socializing and earning money. Vendors around the temple benefitted back then too. So many people visited even from other countries and donated so much money that when the Madurai Temple was established, the treasury of the royals were booming. Nice to see this trend come back.
