This video explains how the muscles interact with each other, in other words, when an certain action takes places in the body, there are multiple (other) muscles that are responsible for the very movements of our skeletal and muscular systems....

I would highly encourage you to know what an agonist, antagonist, synergist, and fixator are before you go into the MBLEx (you may very well see them on there).

As always, you are welcome to comment any questions you may have concerning the material covered today, or the material you would like me to cover in our next video...

Please share and subscribe and give me thumbs up if this video was helpful, so that I can continue growing and reaching other aspiring therapist to pass their MBLEx.

Thank you,
Respectfully

ANSWERS TO QUICK QUIZ:
Extension at the elbow: The prime mover (AGONIST) are the TRICEPS BRACHII
Flexion at the elbow: The opposing mover (ANTAGONIST) are also the TRICEPS BRACHII
Synergist are all the muscles that work together to successfully achieve an action, such as extension at the elbow, primary mover; triceps brachii and synergist; anconeus
Fixators help to stabilize the proximal end (the origin of the contracting muscle) so the distal limb effectively moves, without moving the proximal end of the muscle.

Prime mover in extension of the elbow: triceps brachii, opposing during flexion of elbow: triceps brachii, Synergist are the helper muscles in the action being performed, fixator muscle is usually at the origin and sits on top of the origin of the muscle to keep it stable while action is being performed. Thank you!!

I completely appreciate how you emphasize that muscles never work alone in the beginning and you break down each term clearly. This was helpful to watch! I have a question for you. Based on your first statement that muscles never work alone, would you consider that the antagonist isn't necessarily relaxing and rather "lengthening" which is considered an eccentric contraction? By the textbook, it may seem like a minor detail but in action, whether going down the stairs or exercising on the mat, I'd say it's important to understand that there are *active* oppositional forces dynamically working together to create balance. Wondering what your thoughts are on this. Thank you so much for creating this video-- I'm a certified Pilates teacher currently studying for my National Pilates Certification Exam!

Hi Reyes, Good evening. For some reason, it's not letting me go to the next question after I get to 30 on your mblex practice test. Is there a way you could send a link to this free practice test? Thank you.

In the video, you mentioned that the synergists of elbow flexion are extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis, are these muscles not supposed to be synergist for extension instead since they are located at the back of the elbow?
