"Crazy Fingers"
Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia
Copyright Ice Nine Publishing

Your rain falls like crazy fingers
Peals of fragile thunder keeping time
Recall the days that still are to come
Some sing blue

Hang your heart on laughing willow
Stray down to the water
Deep Sea of Love

Beneath the sweet calm face of the sea
Swift undertow

Life may be sweeter for this, I don't know
See how it feels in the end
May Lady Lullaby sing plainly for you
Soft, strong, sweet and true

Cloud hands reaching from a rainbow
Tapping at the window touch your hair
So swift and bright
Strange figures of light
Float in air

Who can stop what must arrive now?
Something new is waiting to be born

Dark as the night
You're still by my side
Shining side

Gone are the days we stopped to decide
Where we should go
We just ride

Gone are the broken eyes we saw through in dreams
Gone - both dream and lie

Life may be sweeter for this I don't know
Feels like it might be alright
While Lady Lullaby sings plainly for you
Love still rings true

Midnight on a carousel ride
Reaching for the gold ring down inside
Never could reach
It just slips away but I try

This version is just tear inducing. So tender and sweet. Donna is at her absolute best.

At the 2:11 mark, right after the line, "Cloud hands, reaching from a rainbow..." listen for dude with the momentary overload. We've all been there. If you haven't... get there.

This version is a thing of magnificence and beauty. The Grateful Dead at their absolute finest. This is the thing about the Dead that you can never explain. You either get it, or you don't.

My wife and I just tried for our tenth child. Jerry kept singing this in my ear all the way home from a twenty pack half point stack play. I prayed the whole way home. I saw five shooting stars sprinting towards my path. 2-5 miles ahead of me, each time they landed. Three of them were still burning bright with little to no flickering all the way until they disappeared behind the pine line. We have been disagreeing and bickering bc of darkness attacks lately and were both considering giving up. After a long talk last night and a long kiss today before I sailed away. Jerry in my soul. Jerry in my heart. Jerry in my dreams. Something new is waiting… feels like it might be alright and ok. I suppose we’ll see how it feels in the end. Long live love. We will name her Althea Cassidy. Or Hunter Garcia if she’s were to be a he, but I can hear the stars whisper clearly in this thin crisp air. Blessings of love and light to our whole family, meaning you. 💫❤️💫 Shine inside!

Listening now on a Sunday afternoon almost 50 years later and this is as moving and poignant today as ever. Statements seem vain at last And words fail to describe the beauty of this music and hunters Poetry

This is my fav show from 76, June was really super tight that year. The help/slip/franklins is solid. The Cassidy is lovely. The wheel is one of the best. Truthfully not a huge Donna fan, but her vocals are so much better post 74. The band lost a step in the psychedelic madness, but I feel like they were still on the cusp 76, whereas 77 just became a whole new beast of a band. Great show, great tune, great upload.

This has always been one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs. It is so rich and evocative.

Gone are the days
when we stopped to decide
where we should go
we just ride

That is the living truth right there!

Thanks, man. This took a lot of time to select images, photo shop them, then get in sync with the rhythm, meaning and flow of the music/lyrics. Like maybe 10 hours or more total, lol. I'm taking a break now just putting songs up with single images. It's fun to make something like this, but takes patience (and time)!!

Beautiful, often-overlooked song, real nice version too. Another one is July 14, 1976, Orpheum theatre in SF. I was there.
