OSCAR WINNER:Best EditingBest ScoreBest SoundBest Sound EffectsIn the middle of the 20th century, America pondered its future -- and looked to the skies. Based on Tom Wolfe's book, The Right Stuff is the tale of how that future began, a thrilling epic of intrepid test pilot Chuck Yeager and the seven pioneering astronauts of the Project Mercury space program. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, including "Best Picture," Philip Kaufman scripts and directs, pushing the envelope with a filmmaking bravado that matches this soaring story of training and heroism; and of sudden fame for which there is no training. Ed Harris, Barbara Hershey, Sam Shepard, Dennis Quaid and Fred Ward are among the perfect cast of this winner of four Academy Awards that remains the stuff of must-see entertainment. Let's light this candle, flyboys!

Lyndon Johnson learned days later about Mrs. Glenn’s speech impediment. He sent a personal telegram to her apologizing for making her feel pressured in any way, Lady Bird Johnson then made a very quiet trip to visit Annie Glenn and the two ladies became fast friends. Mrs. Johnson never mentioned the stuttering issue in any public forum, ever.

When our leaders, and their wives, had class and dignity.

Glenn backed up his wife. That's the Right Stuff all the way.

Great scene! John was married to Annie for 72 years until he passed away at the age of 95 in 2016. ❤️

I actually asked John Glenn himself about this scene in the movie, he said "I went in to take a shower, when I got out, the guys demanding I call my wife back were gone." His wife stood up to them and Glenn backed her.

The story about this was that after John Glenn backed up his wife in not allow Vice President Johnson into the home, Chris Kraft, the boss, said that he was thinking of replacing john Glenn on this flight. He was told by his subordinates that if he did this was the one issue that the astronauts would come together as a brick wall against him and would refuse to fly. Then the matter would be turned over to President Kennedy. Chris Kraft was told that if Kennedy had to choice between a nameless government bureaucrat or the 7 hero astronauts, then he would lose big time. So he backed off in replacing Glenn.

"Who you gonna get?"

One of my favorite lines from any movie ever.

how Ed Harris (and Dennis Quaid and Fred Ward) didn't get Oscar nominations is a great tragedy.

Love this scene. I love how protective he is with Annie and supports her not wanting to meet Johnson or be in front of the press. This shows how much they loved each other and had each others back.

True story. LBJ was a man who almost always got what he wanted, but not this time. John Glenn was a great man.

Annie Glenn played by Mary Jo Deschanel, mom of Zooey and Emily.

I liked Scott Glenn's shove there at the end. The man meant business

"Who you gonna get"? Great scene among dozens in that film. One of the best of all time.

My favorite part of the movie... You gotta back your wife up 100%. And in my eyes, Colonel John Glenn, being upset, still did it respectfully. He did a phenomenal job, and his boys backed him up... RIP Annie.

The brilliance of this scene is that the establishment, and the audience, realizes that the previously competing astronauts will now be in solidarity.

John Glenn has always been a personal hero of mine, and this is a key part of why. A man of integrity who loved his wife dearly, a courageous pilot, and a trailblazing astronaut. And it's clear from this scene that he had friends who backed him up all the way.

You couldn't have picked a better actor to play John Glenn than Ed Harris. He resembles him so much, , that it is uncanny.
