ASUS ExpertBook CX54 Chromebook Plus Review

・・・・・・・

The ASUS Chromebook Plus CX54 has taken a very strange path to get here. While we had hands on it in December of last year prior to CES 2024, it didn't arrive at that show and didn't really show up for real until May at Google's Chromebook Showcase in New York. But it was worth the wait in a lot of ways, and I'm pretty excited to show you why, so let's get into it.

I am a month with this as my daily driver. It is a great machine!

Seems fantastic, I have the Duet 5 waiting to see what the new Duet brings. Otherwise I would like a chromebook plus model.

Really like the look of this. I just got the CX34 so might wait until next year when there is price drops. I wonder could they have made the bezels even slimmer though?

Robby, I wish you would play audio when talking about the speakers, as I'm surprised that you don't like them. In the B2B version video, the audio you played sounded very loud, which is fine by me; Chromebooks have had very poor volume in the two that I've tried.

My C434 is 5 years old and has the same problem with the backlighting of the keys!

Great review Robbie but you have literally spoiled us all by correctly calling the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus - can't wait till you update us next week...and PS.... please establish whether it will be available for us in the UK. Thanks 👍

For myself this unit would be a good option as a desktop unit. Because of the terrible keyboard that is impossible to read the key caps, weak speakers, not great on the lap and no touch screen this would be a desktop unit for me for sure. I would add a display, keyboard, trackpad, mouse and a pair of speakers to make this an awesome desptop unit.

I think Chromebook Plus should require a fingerprint sensor. The CX54 has one, and that's why I bought it. I would have bought the Acer 516 GE for hundreds less, but it has no fingerprint sensor. So I essentially paid hundreds of dollars for a fingerprint sensor!

Wish screen was larger. My Asus C536 has a 15.6" FHD touch screen, just large enough for side by side pycharm editor windows.

Do you know of a chromebook plus with similiar quality to this one but that comes in a 15.6" screen and has a number pad? If this had one, it would be the perfect machine for me.

Those grey keys are terrible, just like my pixelbook.

I've just developed muscle memory for a touch screen so when I have device without it I end up touching it anyways. Set the ship is sailed I need a touch screen

What I can't understand is why Google hasn't yet designed Chromebooks running snapdragon elite x, when Chromebooks have an affinity with arm that could propel them to a level that Windows may never be able to reach, given that they are more suited to x86.

700 us without a touchscreen or 360 hinge in a deal breaker

How do you get the Ultra 7 16GB 512 GB version?

I just got a CX54 from Best Buy and it has a 60 Hz screen. What gives? Do some have a 60 Hz screen and some have 120 Hz?

Otherwise the Intel Core are too hot despite their power and it disadvantages everything else
