Great teamwork! Glad the fixed prop is running smoother.

The cause of singing on the propeller is the resonance between the natural frequency of the propeller tip and vortex shedding on the trailing edge. The most common way to deal with singing on a propeller is to sharpen the trailing edge. Propably need a file considering it's under water.

So, It's hard to say what my favorite part about these videos you make for us is. The problem you cause us, your viewers is simple: You give us so much to take in, enjoy, and learn from! If only your videos were boring...said no one, ever! Seriously, my favorite part is hearing Sara call Lee Darling, in just the most casual, loving way. It's no wonder you two have such incredible, young adult children, given the loving, supportive ways that you treat each other and others. I have really enjoyed following your journey. Not that you asked, but my second most favorite parts of your videos is watching the process Lee goes through to solve issues that come up. I would imagine there might be a teensy-tiny bit of frustration now and again, but overall it is clear how good a problem solve Lee is. Mike

The singing prop reminds me of the singing frog cartoon ;-)! Another nice episode, thank you.

A little prop song seems a good trade off for losing the vibration! Hope things are going well on the mainland coast and sending hopes for beautiful days. :D.

Yep, all good mechanics. I'm a dirt biker and I see so many doing trips in tough stuff with bikes over geared & motors laboured at lower revs, low oil pressure and not cooling well. Good lucks guys
Nice, the existing looked like it needed help, variable pitch ?. Good use of personal too👍
But so much less load on the motor. Good travels, have fun, stay safe.
Cheers from Brissy

Send the max prop back to PYI to have it evaluated. They can measure everything and tell you if it’s rebuildable. Ours is 26 years old and went back last winter had a few small parts made. He told us if we keep it well greased it and a good anode on it, we could get another 20-25 years out of it.

Confirms what I've thought for 20 plus years, why would someone spend a years cruising kitty on a folding prop that is going to give grief and dubious advantage to a 20 ton cruising boat!!!?? Good move Leigh. In my opinion, don't spend money on the max prop, stick with what tried and true and reliable. Save the money!!

La Paz translates to Peaceful Anchorage 😊😊 because after tacking north for thousand miles of pacific ocean. A big calm peaceful seaport was greatly appreciated ❤❤❤❤

Congrats on fixing the issue guys! Its great when the simple fixes solve sth that would otherwise be a big expensive job ( new shaft)

Very nice, the wales there along the coast are really wonders, nice drone footage. A singing prop isn’t a big problem, especially compared to the vibrating that would eventually tear apart the drive. See you next week, , love your episodes ..

I to changed a prop. mine was in the birth and i had to do the work at high noon in the winter in order to see good enough. It was scary as anything dropped would be lost. i got it done and was happy to have completed the work. i'm happy for you guys!

Ahoy Lee and Catalpa crew. Peter off Sand Dollar in Tweed Heads Australia here. Had a similar problem with my Max Prop. Turned out it was worn, creating play between the 3 blade shafts and the hub, sounds like you have a similar issue. If you can wiggle the tips of the blades 1/4 inch or more, I’m guessing you have a similar problem. A rebuild from Max Prop was an option, an expensive option. So went with a new prop from Autostream in Aust, Been very happy with it so far.
Best wishes from OZ👍👍

Wow, sights like the whales must make all the time stuck in the yard just drift away. Thanks for sharing.

Good fix, singing prop easier to sort & cheaper, than new tubes seals and shaft . Happy Days

Great video, guys. Did it cure the overheating? My bet is that it did. A prop pitch is a tricky thing. I've had a lot of experience with props on ski boats. When you said that you were not getting to full revs, that indicated that the motor was straining. When you said that you had a lot of play in the Max prop when you put it back together, I figured that was where your vibration came from.

This was such a valuable video for boat owners. If you hadn't fixed this, you knew you would have vibrated your bearings out. Not a good thing if you're halfway across the Pacific trying to get through the doldrums. Going from an 18 to a 14-pitch prop means you lose some speed or are less fuel-efficient, but you get there with a healthy motor and your cutlass bearing intact.

Like I said at the beginning, it's an excellent video for boat owners, whether they own a sailboat or a powerboat. Thanks for the lesson. I always enjoy your vlogs.

Great episode! I had fixed 2 blade sail drive props that sung at certain rpm band when very clean and new.

THe 18 pitch prop is more for speed while th 14 more for torque so I am sure this change is a good move. The present vibration is not good. It will bugger up bearings. Glad the prop change worked out. Safe sailing
