The show always falls apart 1 week before the big day before miraculously coming together 😂😅

I had a theater director like this. She was always extremely strict on everyone aside from her favorite ‘students’ (it wasn’t a school thing or an extracurricular activity, just something local that kids could do from ages 6-14). She would get mad over the smallest imperfections or if something wasn’t her vision. Like, she had these three high school kids directing us for every show for every little thing down to the dances and dialogue, and when she finally watched it a week before practice she would always rewrite an entire scenes choreography. For example, I had a friend who played the role of a principal for a play. The scene took place in a cafeteria. She got mad that my friend, who at this point would most likely be in another more causal outfit, was in the scene and cut them out entirely despite it being only 6 days away from show night and we had spent 3 months on the play at this point. She was also really weird about the lights. Since this wasn’t offered through the school, there was a 60 dollar entrance fee plus buying the book to read from plus the practice CD. I had a sister so this was all like, $300 each time we both did it or so. And on top of that she asked us all regularly for another $200 to ‘set up the lights’. We already had lights. They were set up each time already. And if we didn’t give her the money then she would threaten us by saying that we would either have to do the entire show in the dark or she would turn off all the mics alongside the lights. And even with all that money, we still had to pay for all of outfits and costumes (You could have up to three parts and each costume could it around $25). I remember we were doing Aladdin in 2020 right before the pandemic. We got in around 3 weeks of practice before it shut down. At this point everyone had already paid the starting fee, book fee and CD fee. This lady called our house every few days to get some money for the lights. For a show that was not happening. And make no mistake, this wasn’t her job so it’s not like this money was her pay or something.

Yeah, anyways I just wanted to share my personal experience with this kind of theater director even though nobody asked.

I’m glad my theatre teacher was absolutely NOTHING like this. We all LOVED him and our productions were always amazing

I still remember in the first production I was ever in (college, early 20's), our director's (who was also our theatre professor) one single note for the finale was "do it again, but this time don't suck." I still laugh to this day thinking about it. She was a hoot and did give great direction. Other times she came out with gems like that and we just instinctually knew what she meant.

This gave me anxiety from when I did Annie😅

Yup. The show is a disaster the last two weeks, then throws itself together 3 days before.

Any performance based thing falls apart a week before and is fine on the day I swear it's just a thing

this has always been my theatre directors even in community youth theatre 😭 like sometimes i get it (one specific one i cn remember is my hs drama teacher/director getting mad bc our lead still didnt know all his lines until like our last dress) but like most of the time its dumb or confusing bc they either get so mean over the smallest details (i dont like when directors get a Tone like tht yk i get being frustrated abt it bc trust me i am too but still) or r just so vague ur like “ok so how do i take/interpret this ..” sometimes they wont even explain if u ask in my experience .

I find this one really funny because my director is the exact opposite XD
He doesn’t really express his emotions, so all of his notes are just like “George, please don’t break dance on stage.” (True story, btw, tech week was fun)
Hes got a huge sense of sarcasm and an even bigger sense of humor, though, and I’m so grateful he’s my director. Everyone who has experiences like this video, I give you the best of luck!

Literally my friend is in theater and she was telling me about how the class messed up and the teacher brought them inside and then yelled “Barrier yourself ………..(extremely long pause) barrier yourself in the script”

I always enjoy your stuff. You certainly know your stuff. I remember our chorus director giving us almost exactly the same speech after the dress rehearsal for 'Guys and Dolls'. We were a mess!

Yessss totally relatable. I was in a production of Peter Pan and the little kids forgot their stuff
