With so many protein powder options on the market, it can be tough to know which one is best for you. That’s why I’m sharing my top tips and a bonus criterion to ensure you pick the right protein powder. I'll also be reviewing EarthNutri Whey Isolate and Egg White protein powders to see how they measure up against these guidelines.

Here are the 4 healthy guidelines to look for in a protein powder:

1. Type of Protein: Discover the best types of protein powders that provide a complete amino acid profile and a high digestibility score. Learn about the importance of complete proteins like whey isolate, egg white, and vegan options like pea and rice blends.

2. Percentage of Protein Based on Weight Per Serving: Find out how to calculate the protein content percentage in a serving of protein powder and why aiming for 70-90% is crucial for quality.

3. Percentage of Calories from Protein: Learn how to determine if a protein powder is truly protein-packed by calculating the percentage of calories derived from protein. The goal is to have 80% or more of the calories coming from protein.

What brand and type of protein powder do you use? Does it pass all 4 of these healthy guidelines?

1. Choose protein powder with all 9 amino acids that the body doesn’t make

2. Choose whey isolate as it has less fat and carbs.

3. PDCAAS means how well yout body digests and utilizes protein. This is between 0 to 1: 1 being very good.

4. Choose around 70-90% protein per serving. Calculate using the following

(weight of protein per serving)/(serving size weight)

5. Calculate amount of calories per serving from protein

(protein per serving × no.of servings)/total calories per serving

This value should be around 80%.

6. Don’t buy protein powders with artificial sweeteners. Opt out for natural sweeteners!
