I feel like it's the emphasis on hacking the system versus scamming the individual. We can celebrate the person who loopholes a larger corporation who doesn't have the interests of the people, but shame the person going after an elderly person.

I do think there’s a difference between a scam that legitimately tricks a person into handing over money and a hack of an unfair system

tbh people scamming big corporations probably get sued more than people scamming poor old ladies

Not a cleve scam, but a common one (in Australia at least)
You get a call saying you have outstanding tax debt and to make it with iTunes cards

My lovely naive for it but luckily the person at the checkout said “this isn’t for that scam is it?!”
Saved her thousands of dollars
