Great question... she only speaks Italian now with nearly everyone. But she still uses English with me! It's incredible to watch.

Yes, polenta is corn meal, but I think you boil it in water or stock. It's so good! And bread - I think you are right on that, too. All I know is it's much harder than American bread, maybe denser too. I'll check on the salt question

:D Reminds me of holiday dinners with my family! I'm not an expert on Italian culture, but I have an Italian uncle and he often brings a taste of Italy to the table during our family gatherings...and boy is that taste ever so good!

Does your daughter speak Italian with the other kids or English? Kids are such sponges - they can pick up any language within a few months. :-)
