BHP to halt WA nickel operations until 2027

BHP has announced it will shut down all its nickel operations in Western Australia from 2027 – putting 3000 jobs at risk.

The mining giant says it's a challenging time for the nickel sector, citing an oversupply in the global market for its decision.

BHP will suspend operations at the Kwinana Nickel Refinery south of Perth, the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter in the Goldfields and the Mt Keith and Leinster mines.

Utter disgrace bloated BHP. Time for BHP to pay the royalties WA deserves more so after the collapse of their Nickel division and the ALP complicit with their behaviour - through McGowan and Cook, McGowan acts on behalf of BHP. It's time for BHP and RIO to be held to account on behalf of West Australians who own the mineral rights and Australia in general. Double the royalties, if they don't agree simply strip them of their leases and award the mining tenements to Australian companies.

1st world countries have to pay their employees. These other countries don't. Australia, Great Britain, America ect should not allow the purchase of nickel from those countries!
