Obviously it's subjective but I think some of these characters are for sure better

Minato Kageaki is an obvious pick as he's currently my favorite Japanese character, and I really don't see this being all that close. Kageaki, while not as interpretative, is a more layered and rich character, being better developed, and better explored overall.

I would also say Mercurius is a comfortably better character for me due to his much more fascinating concept, his greater depth and complexity (mainly manifesting itself in his insane contradictions and paradoxes), his better dialogues and interactions with other characters, better moments, better thematic construction, and overall just far more consistent characterization.

Yang is also a better character for me, mainly because of how flawless his characterization is. While Kafka's characterization is a lot better than I remembered previously, I think Yang definitely is the better constructed character with numerous interactions that explore different facets of his worldview and his dynamic with Reinhard and their ideological contrast. He's simply a more explored character for me and though Kafka is an incredibly relatable character with his feelings and observations of the world, I think Yang is for sure on his level in that regard with his more realistic and down to earth personality.

And seeing as Yang's better, Reinhard would also be better.

Bernkastel is better due to her concept and the sheer amount of subtextual and thematic depth in her character due to Higurashi's existsnce.

Morgana is also arguably better though I believe they're roughly on a similar level here.

Jacopo, on the other hand, is comfortably the better character with him simply being a far more explored character with better dynamics with the cast and better character development. He's honestly better in almost every way for me though they are very different characters.

Beatrice, much like Mercurius, is better than Kafka as well for me due to her better character construction, her more interesting concept, etc.


This isn't to belittle Kafka as I think he's still a fantastic character, but yeah I believe there are better characters than him
