The Smothers Brothers

The Smothers Brothers, Tom and Dick, are one of the most iconic comedy duos in the history of television. Tom and Dick began performing as a duo in the late 1950s, playing in coffeehouses and clubs in San Francisco. Their act consisted of music, comedy, and witty banter, which quickly gained them a following.

The Smothers Brothers became a household name in the late 1960s with their variety show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The show was groundbreaking in its approach to comedy, pushing the boundaries with political satire and social commentary. The show also featured up-and-coming musical acts, including The Doors and The Who, and introduced the world to comedians like Steve Martin and George Carlin.

The Smothers Brothers' irreverent style has made them a beloved and enduring force in American comedy.

Bob Newhart's comedic timing is impeccable! Newhart and Tim Conway are 2 people that could keep a straight face while cracking everyone else up. And, both had totally clean humor, unlike today. Bob, you are missed already.

When my father died suddenly after a very short illness, aside from my grief I was dealing with all the stress of funerals and finances and the things that go with a sudden death. My mother had already gone, and my only sibling lived some way away so it was pretty much down to me. The stress meant that i wasn't sleeping and was altogether pretty miserable. Then a friend gave me a Bob Newhart tape. I decided to listen to it one night when I couldn't sleep and found myself relaxing for the first time in weeks. I even laughed. It was lovely and I have been grateful to Newhart ever since.

From stand-up to "Bob Newhart" to "Newheart" to "The Big Bang Theory". One of the best comedians of all time. RIP...

My parents had two of Bob's comedy albums (I have them now) that I played over and over until I memorized them. Such a funny man. A man who entertained millions and was a genuine lovely person. God bless you.

Just like the recently deceased Donald Sutherland, Bob Newhart loved what he did, and did what he loved! R.I.P.

This "one side of the conversation" routine is something he perfected in the movie Hell Is For Heroes. He portrayed a supply sergeant who is talking on the line he knew was being monitored by the Germans. He was brilliant, then and now.

He always had a deadpan or smiling delivery of clever verbal slapstick.

I first heard Bob Newhart when his "The Button Down Mind Of Bob Newhart" came out. I was 11 years old at the time. My father came home with it. He bought the album because he was a driving instructor and someone had told him of the skit called the "Driving Instructor". I loved that album. Sixty some odd years later I can still remember a lot of the actual monologues. Newhart had an active career of sixty years in an industry that chews'em up and spits'em out, a testament to the timelessness of his comedy. Thank you Bob, for the brightness you brought to the world. RIP.

Amazing! I grew up in Europe and only discovered Newhart on reruns of the Newhart show on Nick At Night. What a great comic! No cursing, just clever humour!
