This type of bread is quite common in Europe. The reason why we don't eat it as common bread is because it doesn't hold/age very well, and it's not very satiating. Usually, this type of bread would only be eaten by children or for special occasions like religious feast or weddings, where it's decorated and braided.

Enriched breads are akin to eating egg noodles every day. They would be too expensive and unhealthy to consume on a daily basis. Therefore, enriched breads such as French brioche breads are not eaten every day but do exist.
