JESUS is at the HEART of Catechesis

All authentic catechesis has to be Christo-centric. The document Catechesi tradendae (CT) promulgated by Saint John Paul II in 1979 makes it clear:

“…at the heart of catechesis we find a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth, the only Son from the Father… full of grace and truth”, who suffered and died for us and who now after rising, is living with us forever.” (CT, 5).

That Christ is at the heart of catechesis has three important implications for all involved in the ministry of catechesis: (1) The catechist leads people to Christ; (2) The catechist transmits the teachings of Christ; (3) The catechist has to have a close relationship with Christ.
