A shame that Bill Buckner was actually an unsung hero of a very long career and this is what he is remembered for by the majority. Bill was an extraordinary talent and more importantly, a man of noble character.

Being a Dodger fan since 1958 I remember when Buckner came up about same time as Garvey, Cey, Russell, Ferguson and Bobby Valentine and loved them all. I was heart broken when Dodgers traded Billy for Rick Monday. I stayed a fan of Billy's when he was with Cubs and then Boston. Thanks for the great memories and for being a class act. RIP Mr. Buckner

Mookie is trying to be polite. But there is no way in Hell Buckner would have beaten him to the bag. And Stanley failed to cover 1st on the play, so there would be nobody to throw the ball to.

Life long fan of the Chicago Cubs. We loved Buckner when he was a Cub. And many of us would not have cared one iota about the 86 Series had it been anyone other than the Mets!!! And Yes, I let out the 'charlie brown' when the ball went through his legs. But the game was basically blown by Stanley and Shiraldi long before Buckner's play took place. And had Bill even made the play, that would NOT have ended the game, It would've just sent it into the 10th inning since they were tied at that point. No guarantee that the Red Sox would've still pulled it out. But I will always cherish all the good memories of Bill Buckner.

Buckner never struck out more than twice in a single game. In a career that lasted over 20 seasons that doesn't even sound possible. That was the kind of hitter he was.

I'm glad ESPN did a Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame episode for Bill Buckner. Buckner should have never been in that position in the first place. Heck, he told McNamara he had no problem with Dave Stapleton going in as a defensive replacement.

Buckner was suppose to have a defensive replacement in for him before the binning started

Mr. Buckner: A man of character. His Teammates? A bunch of spineless Cowards who never accepted responsibility for their 'contributions' leading to that collapse.

RIP, Mr. Buckner.

Mookie is being a class act 50/50 my ass. He would have beaten Stanley to the bag.

Very clever of Buckner to point out that Bob Stanley was late getting off the mound without actually saying it. Well done, sir.

35 years ago on Oct 25th 1986, was one of the greatest nights in my the winning run is at second base, with two outs, three and two to Mookie Wilson. A little roller up along first... behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight, and the Mets win it! Scully then remained silent for more than three minutes, letting the pictures and the crowd noise tell the story. Scully resumed with:
If one picture is worth a thousand words, you have seen about a million words, but more than that, you have seen an absolutely bizarre finish to Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. The Mets are not only alive, they are well, and they will play the Red Sox in Game 7 tomorrow

RIP Buckner - but regarding that 86 ball who can guarantee that the Red Sox would win? Buckner could have missed the throw, who knows?
