It's been a long time coming, I can tell you that.

This time I bring you an animation based on an old cover I did years prior for Siivagunner's: King For a Day. This arrangement of Bonetrousle goes back a LONG way when Undertale first came out. I wrote the beginning part of the music but didn't have any good equipment at the time. Years later and with more convincing instruments like the accordion, it felt appropiate to do this justice by making this the first of the new batch of animated covers I have in store for you this year!

It feels great to be back again!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Instruments used:

- Vintage Horns 2
- Spitfire Chamber Strings
- World Suite UVI
- EZKeys

"Undertale" OST is composed by Toby Fox
Arranged, animated and produced by Hugo Junstrand

I get very cartoony villain twirling his mustache vibes from the music itself. I know everyone is talking about the animation (which is just the most adorable thing ever) but its the music that brings them to LIFE.

For the first section, making the main melody be played quietly in the background really helps to set it up. You've got a nice beat going and it sounds like you could hear someone saying 'nya ha ha' at any moment. This is what i think Toby Fox intended with the character, anyway.

0.22 we get a piano and accordian playing a version of the melody with a VERY old silent film sort of vibe. It sets a sinister tone for the song itself, but coupled with the animations the sinister tone is lessoned as you can clearly see he ISN'T a moustache twirling villain.

0:38 Switching back over to a more gentle interpretation of the melody, though without losing the sinister undertone, we get a nice little break in the song, one with a little expectancy.

0:52 firm brass and drums in an extension of the intro to the song. The dark piano in the background adds an excellent layer to the tune.

1:00 accordian is the life of this song, seems to represent Papyrus, here playing the main melody sinisterly.

1:15 a little freestyle with the notes, coupled with the piano gives the song less repition and new life.

1:30 the melody is now played by the orchestra, with the accordian backing. I especially like the change at 1:35 just as he hits the rake. It really brings out the song and hinta to the tango style later on.

1:45 reprise, but with less variation to prepare for a change in the second half.

1:53 rest and the accordian takes center stage again as the music grows calm. Pivotal point in the track where the music begins to question itself and falter.

2:02 introduction of a lighter, happier melody, counteracting the previous 'dastardly villain ' feeling. Also an excellent easter egg. (Snowdin's theme and dating/shop theme seriously how do they fit so well together?)

2:10 papyrus' accordian begins to play the new melody, showing a change of heart in the villain of the story. (Awwww just the way he looks at sans like he's saying "oh my gosh did you see that it was so sweet!"❤️)

2:13 a sinister note returns as the song begins to return to its original form. Without the visuals one might interpret it as the previous section being a single moment of change in the villains heart before reverting back to his duty. As it is shown, the sinister note is rather a show of fear and sudden realization of danger.

2:17 epic change to a piano/accordian improv, giving off very classical french/italian vibes that make one feel as if a chase scene is happening. I love thos section very much.

2:32 a new version of the melody shows up, showcasing a change and a shift in tone. The tango style grows much more prominent as a new improvisation takes notes and sequences from the original melody while also jumbling them ariund to form something new.

2:48 a happy build up, clearly stating that tension is gone. Snowdin's theme returns but the accordian is playjg alongside it without hesitation.

3:03 the main melody returns, but played by a gentle clarinet. It literally sounds like friends laughing together and havjng the best of times.

Aye it was cool i mean i really love the cover and i think musicslly it deserves just as much love as the animation because it brings the characters to life. Its why the animation works without voices. The music IS their voice. You dont need anything else. That is masterful storytelling!

Papyrus actively playing a grand piano that he's trying to use in a Human Trap is the most in-character thing I've ever seen.

the fact that the tile puzzle is not only done right, but he actually slides on the purple tiles on the off-beat is beautiful

Gotta love how Papyrus and Frisk are in a tango routine when dodging all the traps.
Incredibly cute. The entire thing.

It'd be just like Sans to be holding the rope but not pulling on it.

Papyrus went from "Capturing the Human" to "Older Brother" really damn quick.

I like the idea of Papyrus being a Wile E. Coyote-style looney tunes villain way more than just portraying him as a manchild

One of the funniest parts for me, is at 1:34, because the fact that all of the traps are still not triggered, implies that the human managed to get past all the traps without setting ANY of them off. Though papyrus, the skeleton who MADE THE TRAPS. MANAGED TO FORGET WHERE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM WHERE, AND STEP ON ALL OF THEM.

0:33 Papyrus imagining himself with muscles is way too canon.

Turms out, having an 8+ y/o YT watch history actually does pay off! This was an unexpected delight, and you have a well-earned new sub.

He may not have gotten to be king for a day, but he sure got to be a bone in our hearts.

This is so unbelievably "undertale" in vibes and style that if there was ever a undertale series i need you to be a director

Seeing something like this in 2024 makes me reminisce on the good ol' days when Undertale first came out.
I'm glad people are still making videos like these. It's nice to see Sans being Sans and Papyrus being Papyrus. It's nice to see "Undertale" again.

Y'know, this is so Papyrus tbh, tho his dream is to be a Royal Guard, he pushes that notion aside once he realizes that Frisk is a potential and fantastic friend! The animation was just so in character to, along with the composition! Great job!
