Few video game characters carry the weight of Red Dead Redemptions Arthur Morgan. A big part is the vulnerability, it’s interesting to actually have a vulnerable protagonist. The fact your character can always come back to life usually ruins it but giving him a disease flips that on its head.

Everyone was complaining when RDR2 came out "I don't want to play as this new guy, I wanna play as John!".
RDR2 epilogue "I don't want to play as John! I want to play as Arthur!"

If RDR2 was a movie, Rodger Clark would've been Oscar nominated. His performance was on the level of Pacino's Michael Corleone and The Godfather.

Arthur's "I gave you all I had" was like Obi Wan's "You were my brother Anakin, I loved you". It broke my heart because I never expected a fictional video game character to mean so much to me.

He's honestly my favorite protagonist in all of fiction. Rockstar will simply never top this game. It's one of the best pieces of art I have ever experienced

Arthur is a tragic hero. Loyalty to the gang was his purpose. His life ended learning that Dutch didn't truly value loyalty except to himself.

I didn't think they'd top John Marston but they surpassed him. Amazing character with great development, which just made the ending that much more heartbreaking.

Man when I played RDR2, I started as a full blown scumbag with 0 honor, after his TB analysis I went for Arthur's redemption as I figured he probably wasn't going to make it, the ending although extremely sad, felt even more rewarding as I personally felt that I had actually cleared Arthur's name by then and was able to leave at peace knowing that all the bad deeds were undone. Masterpiece of a game in every aspect.

I remember when RDR2 was first announced and they said that John wouldn't be the main protagonist and it instead would be some guy named Arthur, I was complaining "wtf Rockstar who is this, I want John Marston's backstory" and wasn't even open to giving Arthur a chance.

I swear after only like 3 hours of playing as him, Arthur immediately grew on me and the more I played the more I cared and got invested. After all those hours spent playing as him and he finally dies, it felt like I genuinely lost a friend I went through hell with. The irony is when it switched for you to play as John, I didn't even care and wanted to play as Arthur again.
That's how powerful Arthur Morgan was as a protagonist for me. Easily top 5 of all time.

I do find Arthur doing low honour things so out of character for the story as a whole. Makes far more sense for him to be a good man throughout and helping his community

He's literally one of the best if not the best written character for a game and just in general. It's going to be very tough to top this game

I wouldn’t really call Morgan an Anti-Hero but more of an Anti-Villian as he’s still being honourable under a villainous gang. John would probably fit under Anti-Hero a little bit better in my thoughts.

Arthur was a character that changed my life forever and at first I hated him. Overtime I began to love him when I got to see how Arthur think and felt about the life he lived as an outlaw. I related to him completely with not only how he feels about the life he lives and how he hates all the killing he had to do while being good at it. I also grew up sick so everytime Arthur coughed my heart hurt and by time he died I felt like I lost an older brother

Perfect timing for me, I just finished his story and I'm working on the epilogue. Arthur's complexity as a character and being able to help shape his morality really played a role in how I saw him especially at the end. By the end it was like a piece of me was dying because I put so much of my own values in him and I related so much to his struggle. Not afraid to say I shed quite a few tears by the end of his journey.

He's vulnerable. He cares for his people. He's torn apart. I love him.

He actually reminds me of my husband, so when Arthur cried, I cried. I don't even want to talk about the whole confrontation on a mountain.

Arthur was definitely one of, if not the strongest character that Rockstar made.

I always thought “if I could go back in time and write down a story as a book series before it was ever made, what would it be?” The answer to me was the Pirates of the Caribbean series and The Red Dead series. The story of Arthur and John are such award winning stories that I feel are limited only by the medium it’s in. If an Author came up with the story first it would go down in history as a modern classic

Arthur saying goodbye to his horse at then end of the game was the most heartbreaking moment for me. Especially since I basically took care of it and made sure it was safe for most of the game.
