I’m on a very limited income, so what I’ve been doing is rolling my leftover cash into the next month and still loading my envelopes with the full amount. That way after a couple months, I wind up with a little chunk of money left over in all my envelopes, and I take thatbdo something special with it, either a savings deposit, or I finish out a sinking fund for the year, whatever. I know that’s probably not the most ideal situation because it does sometimes allow me to spend a little more in a category where I want to restrict my spending. But what I found is that I don’t wind up indiscriminately buying anything. Since I’m spending cash, I’m always thinking twice about the purchase.
