If you upgrade the Zonai Glider set two stages, you get the set bonus Impact Proof. This forbids you from taking ANY fall damage, so you can bomb shield jump without dying. Unfortunately, the amount of height you bounce doesn't scale with how high up you fell from.

To be fair, it does prevent SOME fall damage at any fall speed where Link remains above the explosion for long enough for it to launch him upward. We learned here that terminal velocity is indeed high enough for Link to die before being saved by the explosion.

My questions now: is there a specific fall speed at which Link dies to the bomb's explosion damage and not from fall damage? Can a bomb shield even hurt Link while it is equipped?

if you pause the video right as link impacts the ground, he's in the "fall damage" animation and his bomb shield is on his back just before the bomb explodes

this means that link specifically dies to fall damage here, and to further compound that fact, bomb shields cannot hurt link when he's holding the shield up or when he's surfing on it.
