What's even more interesting is the REAL story. Ben was originally just a placeholder until they decided on who would voice Sonic - but they were so impressed with his performance in the test footage that they picked him for the full movie!

Fun fact: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was Idris Elba's fourth voice-over role, after Zootopia (2016), The Jungle Book (2016) and Finding Dory (2016), All 3 features were Disney films, making this his first non-Disney voice role, in addition to being his 2nd time doing voice over work in a live-action film.

Ben Schwartz fits the role of Sonic so well. His voice acting has such a playful and funny sound to it that makes it (in my opinion anyway) rather lovable. But also at the same time there’s an annoying childishness to it that fits Sonics character and personality (in the movies anyway) almost perfectly.
