Ampeg J-12T Jet II guitar amplifier, played clean

It's the pure sound of a Jet II from the 1990s, captured with an EV dynamic microphone. The speaker is a Jensen C12R, 8 ohms.

Sweet amp! Ampeg also made a Jet J-20 from 2007-2009 in Korea, it's a real-deal PTP amp like early ones, and uses the same circuit as a Fender Deluxe brown-panel (brownface) amp, like BIlly Gibbons used all over ZZ Top's early recordings. There are a couple minor differences, and tweaks to make it better, but it's a solid amp and even comes with an AlNiCo speaker with 30oz. magnet. The power transformer and output transformer are both over-designed, so you can use 6L6 tubes for additional headroom and volume, and different overdrive sound quality to the stock 6V6 power tubes. It also has the tube bias tremolo like the Fender brownface deluxe, sweet sounds! They are difficult to find, but worth looking, I recently scored on for under $600 shipped, while a Fender brown-panel Deluxe sell for ~$5, 000, or 10x more! All the early Ampeg amps are great values too, especially the 6V6 circuits from late-1950's to early-1960's - collector here (golden era Gibson amps too).

Really nice sound! I have the Jet II (and 6 other Reverberocket series amps) and love the Jet II clean Tremolo sound. It's my goto amp for small gigs and other venues. And it has the Ampeg labeled C12R in it as well.

Nice amp. I have one and did the same thing with regard to swapping the original speaker for a Jensen C12R. No, it's it's not an point-to-point hand-wired vintage tube amp, but it looks like one and more importantly, sounds like one.

This amp sounds and looks great. I happened to cruise by the old Serramonte Music store in the late '90s and a SLM rep was there. Of course, this was Crate but he said they tried to keep the Ampegs separate. Hell, seems like it didn't matter. No Crate OR Ampeg now.

That speaker sure sounds good. What is your opinion since you are there live listening to it while I am hearing it through a mic and some jbl monitors? Also, how does that speaker break up compared to the stock one? I am on the fence about selling mine or just getting a different speaker. I have swapped out tubes in mine. I have used an old set of Hammonds, amperex from Holland from the early 60's and they make a difference.

How tight is the fit on that Jensen c12r? I tried a Vintage 30 and it was way too big to fit. Do you get much volume out of the c12r? I like to use my Jet II at jams since its not too heavy to carry around.
