One of the worst things the show did was ruin Stannis. In the books he leaves her under guard, at Castle Black while he goes to fight the Boltons. He tries to keep her safe from her mother and Melisandre. His final command to his men is that even if he were to die, they must continue to fight to place Shireen on the throne.

The show changed a lot. In the books Stannis the Mannis would never have burned Shireen and instead burned her mother. Also Davos cared much more about his own kid
