Blending and segmenting skills are needed for a child to develop into a reader or writer. Too often, this learning is skipped in favour of learning the letter sounds. By doing regular practice early on (alongside learning the letter sounds), children will quickly be able to blend to read words and will confidently be able to segment to spell. If you want your child to get ahead with reading and writing, don't miss these vital steps. They will need to practise on a regular basis until they can do this confidently.
