started year 10 thinking i was gonna revise every day. now it's a few weeks until year 11 and i still haven't even made notes! it's honestly so hard to not procrastinate and i want 7's and 8's. better start revising.

I’m going into year 11 and honestly I’m just not here for it like ha please god no. I’ve not been revising and I actually want to cry because I’m StReSsEd

I'm starting Year 12 now so I think I am qualified to give a little bit of advice:

- Listen in class! I got by with very little revision for my mocks and real GCSEs just because I paid attention to my teachers. It's 100x easier to revise if you already know most of what you are trying to learn.

- Don't listen to the people who complain that they only did 5 and 1/2 a day of revision over the Christmas holiday. Yes there was seriously someone who did this at my school. These people just want to feel as if the work they are doing is worth it so they feel the need to let people know they are doing it. Everyone needs to do different amounts of revision.

- Don't leave revision until too late. I had been making notes on the main subjects from Year 10 and kinda recapping what we had been doing in class very briefly. I only started revising properly in April and only really properly on the days before the exams. I think I did well only because I listened in class and had made notes but I could have done better if I revised consistently from February or March.

- Don't burn yourself out. A lot of people started revising for 3 hours a day in January and by May, they were too tired to put in the same effort.

- Try to revise for your mocks. I didn't and got mostly a few 7s and 8s in the subjects that I was good at but mostly 5s. If you fail your mocks it means absolutely nothing but if you try and revise for just a week before it is good practice. Also, mocks are nothing like GCSEs because they are shorter and you don't feel the pressure that you do with GCSEs.

- GCSEs do end. When I was doing exams it felt like the exams would never end. You have to keep in mind the long summer holiday you will have at the end and how happy you will be on results day as motivation.

- The exams are not actually that bad. When you look at it as 20+ exams all in one go, it can be terrifying, but you have to remember that each exam is separate so just take them one by one and don't get overwhelmed.

- I know a lot of people don't recommend cramming but it is the only thing that saved me from failing all my exams. Ideally, revise for a long time your exams and sleep well on the night before them but if you don't which most of you wont, revising the night before for a few hours makes all the difference.

- Stop saying "maths is too hard I can't do it" or "I'm not a math person". Stop that now! In year 9 I was a level 3 in maths and said that all the time. I hated the subject too. I always tried to be smart and say "what is the point of learning the area of a triangle? When am I going to use that in real life?" Then I decided to make a change so I simply looked up a video explaining what I didn't understand in maths. Eventually, I started to enjoy the subject. How I improved from a 3 to an 8 is my next point.

- Do past papers! They are the single best tool for improving, especially in Math and English. For math, look up on YouTube for math teachers going through past papers and explaining how to do each question. This helped me the most.

- GCSEs don't matter that much beyond getting into sixth form or college. If you have certain results you need to get to move on, make sure you get them! Don't let yourself down. Apart from that, try and get grades that you and your family will be happy with. If you don't it doesn't matter but you will regret it.

- focus on your high priority subjects (the ones that matter most to you and your future)
- look after yourself and your mental health
- revise early!
