My dad taught me two things about the "hidden scribe" tool. 1) you can use it to scribe lines onto a work piece. 2) it's usually the first thing to go missing from your toolkit. I have at least 3 combination squares, and zero scribers! :) Your videos are brilliant, demystifying tools is a great way to make people more comfortable with the tasks at hand and help them become more self-reliant. Keep up the great work.

Just came back from my garage where I checked out my combo-square--that I've been using for 25 years--and found the scribe tool that I never knew was there.

Thanks!!!

Honestly I've been doing a lot of carpentry work for well over 30 years. I think I've learned more from this lady in the last five than I did over the last Thirty. It makes all the difference in who teaches you when you're being raised. She should really be integrated into shop classes for teens in High School

I'm not a carpenter. I went to school for welding. You know really neat tricks to get the most out of your tools. Being effective with one's tools is the difference between a master and a novice. Thank you for sharing.

Just purchased my first combination square (I've always gotten by with the triangular speed square) and the first thing I noticed while inspecting it was the odd pin in the bottom. I googled "How to use a combination square" and your video was the first hit. Thank you for the answer and the introduction to the other add-on options. The protractor will be a major help. I can't believe I'm just finding out about this at 47 years old! Thank you!

I just love this lady. Old school value of taking pride in a job well done by you, be cause she taught you that. Reminds me of my Pops, wanting to teach everyone how to "fish".

Thank you. I did not know that and I am 71 years old and still learning. I just love my life .

I learned about the scribe in college. I had a Summer job in a metal fabrication shop, and we used it to score lines in metal all the time. I still use the scribe if I need to score a line in a harder substance. Enjoy the videos! Very informative.

I greatly appreciate your positive attitude, clear explanations, and useful lessons. You have left me with an excellent impression. I would love to spend a day in a shop with you. I think I would learn more in that day then in the last 10 years. Thank you, Leah. Keep up the excellent work. I appreciate it.

I remember finding it by accident in shop class, but not knowing what it was used for, so I put it back and didn't say anything to the shop teacher in case it was an adjustment pin like I thought it was and that I had just broken the tool.

Thanks for both educating me AND laying 20+ years of guilt to rest. Lol

I hsve an Empire comb. Sq that I’ve been using for 50 years, but I now need to replace as its falling apart, and yes, I knew a bout the scribe, but have always preferred a pen or pencil mark. I am a strictly incidental user. Neither hobbyist, nor woodworker am I. I certainly admire those who are, but I’m more repair what needs fixing type of guy. Leah, you obviously know that you are one of the stand-out builder-teachers on YT. Your lucid and accessible explanations have made me a big fan of yours. At 70 years young, I have an abiding admiration for those who can transform the challenging and formidable into the accomplished! Lead on, Leah!!!!

My dad taught woodshop and the combination square was one of the five tools he had given me by 1st grade. He showed all the features of each tool and of course the safety rules. I didn't master all his skills but I am going back to my roots now in retirement and using what I recall to tinker and build in my shop. Thanks for showing others these small tips to use tools to their fullest.

I remember my Dad showing me all woodworking tools back in my teens. He had built 11 homes himself in his younger years including both homes we grew up in. He was a perfectionist who could design, draw and build anything. Measure thrice and cut once. Perfect every time.

I have been using combination squares for almost thirty years and while I knew about the scribe tool, I have never been able to master the insertion of the ruler into the anvil. There is always a sheer moment of panic whenever I have to pull the ruler out and flip it. I own several squares now because I can never get them re-inserted once I remove them. A video on aligning that half moon pin and sliding that ruler back in and squaring it up...that would be something that would change my life! Thanks for all the work you do for us. You are invaluable in this community.

As a newbie I love your videos. I had no idea that we could do so many things with it- much less that there were other parts to use with it. Thank you! 🙌🏼
