This is reminding me of the couple of times I visited Toulouse, once for an entire week thanks to friends that live there. I remember it being a very dynamic, young city (many young adults), and easy-going people. It's predominantly pinkish-orange brick buildings and terracotta barrel tile roofs gives this city and the whole Toulouse-Albi-Montauban area a distinctive look, unique not just within France but within southwestern France itself. For instance, nearby Bordeaux-Libourne-Saint Emilion area with its prevalent beige limestone buildings could not be more different looking. And Bordeaux didn't feel as young-spirited or easy-going as Toulouse. Maybe it's Bordeaux's slightly snooty wine culture, the austere limestone buildings, or both.
