Programming Dodge Ram Key Fobs - Bad Wrench

In this video, I show you how to program key fobs for a 08 Dodge Ram. I have to program these keys because the truck will not start or stay running if it does not recognize the key you put in the ignition. You can cut a key but that is only the second step. When I cut keys I always cut from the vin code at the dealer so I get the best possible key. If you cut your new keys with a old key it maybe wore out and not work in the ignition. This does not work if you or someone else changed out the ignition tumbler. This program is easy and you will need 2 stock ignition keys to program any other keys. You can program up to 8 keys in total.

Thanks for the video. I was able to program two new keys for a 2005 Durango. The locksmith, who I had cut my keys, said I could not program myself. I got the keys from a Walmart pro-seller. I like using Walmart because I can return it to Walmart if they don't work. BUT THEY DID!! Thanks again.

Just swap out the pc board from the old key to the new key. No reprogramming is necessary then. This also helps if you only have one of the original keys

When I buy replacement key fobs I like to get red ones or blue ones because they are a lot easier to find

Question I'm having what if you only have one factory key and the key fob has been broke off and discarded. How can you program it without a diagnostic scanner? The owner says she has a key for the door but doesn't start the truck. Wouldn't door key be the same cut as the ignition? And couldn't I use it? Even though it's not programed? I thought of buying simple key kit or a scanner but if I can do it without the expense it would be nice.

The first working key fob you put in and count the seconds is just IGN ON not start right?

I have both original key fobs. Both will start my engine and it will keep running. On one of the key fobs, the lock/unlock, remote engine start and panic buttons do not work. Since they both start and the engine keeps running, can I use them both to reprogram a new remote, even though the one doesn't work on the door locks, remote engine start and panic buttons?

I changed my battery on my key fob and now the buttons don’t work I even cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and still nothing. Could you do you video on that?
