Athearn Shamu SD90MAC-H 8204 W/ Loksound

Taking the new Genesis 2.0 SD90 out for some laps.
Honestly the biggest letdown on these is the pitiful lighting, which wasn't adjusted in the slightest from the last run. A few cosmetic flaws out of the box put a damper on the excitement of a fun paint job that's been overdue in plastic. Otherwise the drivetrain is standard Athearn, ran fine during filming. Weight is pretty standard, definently falls behind offerings from Scaletrains for fit and finish quality.

Imo...the both the 80MACS and 90MACS are best looking wide-cab locomotives EMD ever made (tall claim i know)
Something about those teardrop windshields, the massive radiator, and the overall shear size of the thing just all fits together to make a presence that even make today's locomotives look lacking

Genuinely surprised Athearn’s actually doing rotating bearing caps when they weren’t advertised with them back in the December 2021 announcement. Currently owning an SD80 and SD90 I would seriously consider doing a full LED swap for the ditch and headlights; the stock numberboard and truck lights do ok for now IMO

Very attractive sd90mac h model with a modified sound file decoder, the sd90 looks impressive with the emd demonstrator paint scheme and it's paired up with a demonstrator sd60 unit as well and this locomotive pair look great together.

I've long dreamed of owning this model, especially since I got to know the type back in 2004. At the time, Kato modeled the SD9043MAC version. Overland Models did make the brass version, which is incredibly expensive.
Then in 2019, I was initially happy that Athearn finally released the model. However, I decided not to purchase the first batch as they feature the ugly Phase-II cab.
Only when they finally released the version with Phase-I cab that I finally make the purchase.
I'm truly happy with its quality. The detail is marvelous. The running quality is smooth. It also able to negotiate the curves on my small layout.
If there's a downside, it has to be its sound quality. Although the engine sound is crystal clear, and the horn is loud, its secondary sounds are barely audible. I can't hear the radio chatter or the compressor sound. The bell noise is barely audible either.

Did you try messing with the brightness CVs? I have a pair of 80s and 90s that had to have the lighting brightness turned up out of the box

You should have put the RS3L horn sound it sounded like if UP put that horn on the first Order of the SD90MAC
