Any pen enthusiast knows that MB just relies on the brand name. For quality and luxury, you go straight to Namiki. The Emperor series is a literal work of art

Several things: Montblanc pens are like Harley Davidson today. More about the name than any thing else. The modern ones are middle of the road at best. Any plastic is a "resin." The "precious resin" myth started with a translation error. And the "classic design" was stolen from the Sheaffer's pen design of the 1950s. The Sheaffer's design was still under copyright then...
And then the pens these folks are hawking aren't their design. They're a very common Hero conglomerate Chinese pen that regularly retail for under $5 USD. Nowhere near luxury.

"even 18k gold" as if that isn't (one of) the cheapest metal(s) listed.

Edited for technical correctness.

Brand marketing, period. Plastic pens, with gold nibs selling for $1K.. other premium pen brands do the same, and charge comparatively or far less.

The video is right. Montblanc do use quality materials but usually you can find pens from other companies that use the same materials for half the price. That's why many people think montblanc is overpriced.

Mind you they have a lot a quality control issues. Especially in the nib.

With the 221 and 144 I own they must have skipped some of those 35 steps.
Customer care? "We don't check our old nibs. Why don't you buy a new one, you filthy pauper?"

Mont Blanc pens are riding on their name. There are websites out there with lots of purchasers totally dissatisfied with these pens and the bad customer service. BEWARE!!!

What crap. Staying with Montblanc production pens for a moment. They are good, but there are far better pens which are cheaper. Montblanc spend a huge amount on marketing to keep the brand in the boutique niche. The customer pays for that along with the fashion name. Rolex, which are not actually particularly good Swiss watches, did exactly the same. 36 steps to make the nib my arse! No more steps that any good nib. Aurora still make theirs completely by hand. Montblanc probably don't. Their production levels are far too high for that.

Pilot and sailor dominate at a fraction of the cost tbh… and forget the buzzwords, resin is just plastic and iridium is an industry standard for tipping material.

Wow! 18K gold!?!? I should tell the 21K gold nib on my just as beautiful sailor that it is garbage cause it’s not 3 karats less on a pen that is only expensive because of the name it’s in

The only reason they are so expensive is the name "Mont Blanc" and they have a snowflake on them. They aren't worth it, but if you're a collector, you gotta have one, right? Lol

What resin ??? Its just injection moulded plastic named as precious resin. Good is just 0.8 gram which is about 10 dollars.
