Oliver Anthony Music - Ole Red (Live From The Coal Mines)

We were recently able to come pay our respects to a great crew of underground coal miners in Iaeger, WV. Billy Contreras, one of the world's best fiddle players, was also able to be a part of these recordings of “Ole Red” and several other new original songs we played for the miners.

This song was originally written by James "Bo" Bohan, Don Goodman, and Mark Sherrill. It was first recorded by George Jones for his 1990 album You Oughta Be Here with Me.

Don Goodman is one of my favorites, and Billy Contreras on the fiddle used to tour with George Jones. I felt like this would be a perfect cover to do while we were down in the mine for the Dick Clarke New Year's Eve session.

This was an active mine and we were required to wear the hard hats. Yes, I do have a big head. Lol

I appreciate all the support. Talk to you soon.

I am the Grandson of a Former Coal miner Former Marine in WWII and Father of 4 born 1925 he passed away in 2011 born and raised in a small coal mining town in Apollo P.A. Oliver this hits home Thank you for being the light that keeps me moving forward and the voice of many stay Humble and blessed my Friend! (Edit: I wrote Former Marine the only reason I had said that is Because before I was born My Grandfather took his medals and threw them in the trash if it wasn't for my uncle they would be lost forever... My Grandfather never even talked about what Happened in the war Understandably so I would not be able to speak of the things that happened if that was me so now we have the Medals to remember him by and pictures of the war he had Tucked away that no one seen until after he had Passed...

I’m glad to hear country music has found its soul again. Phenomenal job.

I’m a boilermaker, working in the bag house of a coal-fired power plant right now. Knees deep in quick-lime and coal & fly ash.

Being a 4th generation, it’s wild have the same career as my great grand daddy. Working on the power plants he was foreman on building.

Pride isn’t enough of a word for what I feel working in that place everyday. A love/hate relationship at its epitome.

It’d be a blessing to have you come hang out on the job site and get awareness out there about these young men keeping the lights on for millions.

This man has so much soul and power in his voice it’s unbelievable ! It’s like he’s singing from the broken souls that want too but can’t.

You know why I like you and support your music? It’s not because you can sing, play the guitar like no other, or come up with great songs. There are plenty of other artists that can do that too. It’s because you stayed true to who you are and didn’t sell out for the almighty dollar. Just like almost every single person has in the music industry.

I speak from the outside world. I’m an American Texan born citizen. I like to say that you are by far the most melodic understandable country singer that I’ve ever listened to. Keep your singing going. I understand the world is a lot bigger than the place you come from. We hear you and we understand you and we feel you. We love you.

I love the fact that he messed up the lyrics in the 3rd verse but kept it in anyway; he even acknowledges it, lol. This man is so organic playing anything, and this just shows it. God bless him and those hard-working miners. Keep doing what you're doing 👌

The fact he left the mistake in the video sets him apart from everybody. He is still down here with us and not up there with them. In other words still a regular person.

The most "country" country singer I've ever known. He embodies everything that country music was originally about. He is so far beyond the commercialized, industrial music that passes for country these days it's not even funny. Keep up the good work, Oliver and don't let the money and fame change you. Thank you for sharing your gift.

An instant Southern Gothic classic. Billy's fiddle is so haunting. He always knows exactly where & what to play. Bravo!
