Solid analysis, as always. Keep up the good work!

As I told you I used the Anand tech bench tool. It is a tech site that tests reference versions at regular settings. This is there quote on the bench tool=

Bench gives you access to our internal benchmark data so that you can compare the products without searching for an older review. Make reliable comparisons between products by clicking on product categories below!

Not a fair comparison by generation but a fair one by price.
And even if it's not the fairest comparison people still want to know how they go against each other. Good work!

Am actually trying to decide between R9 280x and GTX 770 Classified? I dont have much experience with AMD video cards. Do you think the R9 280x will be a better choice?

Yep! I was running (2) GTX 460s in sli for 3 years, with great performance. I've upgraded to an EVGA GTX 670 FTW! and plan on adding a second card for SLI.

Great comparison. Can't wait for the next-gen AMD cards!

I wasn't saying a single gpu can't run multiple monitors, of course it can, I was saying we haven't got any with enough juice to run them well. My perfect set up is 3 ips panels and a rig that can max any game and not drop below the 60 fps the panels can do. That maximises smoothness while giving the best visuals. No single gpu can do this. AMD has said that even with the new drivers X-fire has not been fixed for multi-monitor set ups. That rules them out as a viable option.

The 770 model down are all remakes which is why there shelf life is so short, Nvidia are meant to be releasing the replacements in the first half of next year apparently.

It depends on the monitor set up, the fps and the visual quality that your after.
If your running 3 monitors or a 1440 or a 21:9 then a single card will struggle to give high fps (60+) at max settings, In fact with some of the current games it isn't possible even with the best of cards. So if you want to power that sort of set up you haven't got a choice but go with dual cards. I tried X-fire and sold the extra card within a month so now I'm saving for a second 770 having just got the first.

I wasn't comparing it with a mid high card at all. I told you to go to the anandtech bench site and compare the 7970 ghz results to the 770 results and with max settings @ 1080p, Both have wins but the majority of games are won by the 770. I was pointing to my 3d score marks so you can see I've owned both brands and don't buy what I buy based on who makes it.

so im looking to upgrade from a 7950 to possibly the 770 mainly cus i dont have the budget for a 780. which one of these cards would be the best performance increase? they both seem pretty close.

guys do you thing the amd conference will introduce the 8000 series and if so how much do you think they will cost im hoping for £200 or less hopefully

It's also a fact that next gen consoles come all with AMD hardware and so the future games will be better optimized for that.

hmmm.. Im also considering the jump.. My dilemma is R9 280x or nVidia 770 classified?

I've been surprised by the 280 results. I was expecting my 770 to be beaten hands down but that's not the case, I've had my 770 for sale for a week or so as instead of sli-ing it I've decided to check the x-fire results on the new non bridged 290x and go with that but if it's not looking good enough I'll sli the 780. I was going with a 21:9 monitor but overclockers have a well priced own brand 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor I want to run with them.

The 770 is way better, but the 7970 was born 2 years ago...

You have to think about one thing though, the 7970 is the flagship model of the HD 7000 series where the 770 isn't the flagship model of the GTX 700 series

Theoretically there memory set up is better suited to it but it wasn't really required for that gen and it did not help much because it wasn't used to it's fullest potential. AMD seem to bring certain tech's out first where as Nvidia and Intel wait until it can be used, another example is mainstream 8 core processors and more recently there 5ghz cpu. They do these things because they can regardless of whether it's usable.

Asked about your FPS drop in Metro while using CPU as physics controler. You mentioned it. For now nest performing hardware is GTX Titan for tons of money. AMD has one thing - better price/performance ratio. Also as I many times told - both SLI/CX are unstable and it is really better idea to lower not needed spec in games to have good FPS and play. Tho I see no sense in playing on multiple monitors (professional gamers don't play on 3 monitors) because it's made for working not playing.
