Στις ακολουθίες των Ωρών της Μεγάλης Σαρακοστής, αντί να διαβάζουμε τα απολυτίκια των αγίων της ημέρας, ψάλλουμε ύμνους που εκφράζουν το κεντρικό θέμα της αντίστοιχης Ώρας. Για παράδειγμα, ο ύμνος στην ένατη ώρα μιλά για τη σταύρωση του Κυρίου, η οποία έλαβε χώρα την αντίστοιχη ώρα της ημέρας. Σε αυτήν την ηχογράφηση, οι ύμνοι ψάλλονται σύμφωνα με την παράδοση της Σιμωνόπετρας, όπως μεταγράφηκε από τον ιερομόναχο Γρηγόριο της Σιμωνόπετρας.
In the services of the Hours of Great Lent, instead of reading the dismissal hymns of the saints of the day (i.e., the apolytikia), we chant hymns that express the central theme of the respective Hour. For example, the hymn for the Ninth Hour speaks of the Lord’s Crucifixion, which took place at the analogous time of day. In this recording, the hymns are chanted according to the tradition of Simonopetra, as transcribed by Hieromonk Gregorios of Simonopetra.
Ὁ ἐν ἕκτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τε καὶ ὥρᾳ, τῷ Σταυρῷ προσηλώσας, τὴν ἐν τῷ Παραδείσῳ τολμηθεῖσαν τῷ Ἀδὰμ ἁμαρτίαν, καὶ τῶν πταισμάτων ἡμῶν τὸ χειρόγραφον, διάρρηξον Χριστὲ ὁ Θεὸς καὶ σῶσον ἡμᾶς.
Στιχ: Ἐνώτισαι ὁ Θεὸς τὴν προσευχήν μου καὶ μὴ ὑπερίδῃς τὴν δέησίν μου
Ὁ ἐν ἕκτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τε καὶ ὥρᾳ, τῷ Σταυρῷ προσηλώσας …
