Those early CGI graphics really do scream early 80's damn

The original still looks incredible today. Gorgeous backlighting. Brilliant concept art by Moebius and Syd Mead among others. Creativity off the charts.

SARK: "You're very persistent, Tron!"

TRON: "I'm also better than you."

This! This is the trailer I remember as a kid. Gutted the DVD release only includes an edited version. So awesome to see it again. Love the more electronic soundtrack too. Thanks SO much for posting

R.I.P. Cindy Morgan; she was beautiful in this movie as Lora/Yori, and also in "Caddyshack".

I need to re watch this . I remember going to see it as a 7 year old and didn't understand it very well. As an adult re-viewing it I may think differently.

This has to be the best quality TRON trailer I have ever seen! Plus, it's not one I have seen on any prior DVD/Bluray release nor have I seen it posted online before!

Let's see The Disney Company do this!

The collection of movie theater treasures just keeps getting better and better!

Thank you so much for this!

If you happen to have a copy of the 1982 EPCOT Center 'Coming October 1, 1982' trailer, would love seeing a restored upload of that too!

BELIEVE IN THE USERS!

End of Line.

Saw this for the first time during my state’s lockdown. While I liked it I’ll admit that it was a bit confusing to follow at first.

It's amazing how these "primitive" and "dated" special effects actually look more artistic and interesting than most of the trailers for sci fi and fantasy films of the 2020's.

No other movie has been able to replicate the realism and quality of this amazing film.

I'm thankful to have seen this when it first came out. I still have a pack of unopened Tron trading cards.

The original Tron turns 40 today!!!
Never watched it until Tron: Legacy came out
Doug Walker didn't like how complicated it was to transcribe but he loved the look
Flopped at the box office but it was a huge leap in modern special effects and clever allegory and commentary on religion
Also plays into a common paranoia prevalent in science-fiction...fear of machines taking over being superior to humans
Pretty cool they had Tron the character in Kingdom Hearts 2
The movie arrived at an unusual moment in time where video game culture was in its infancy and bold digital effects were still a bit of a head scratcher
Shot entirely on black and white 70mm film, stars like Jeff Bridges, Cindy Morgan and Bruce Boxleitner would have to wear white, skin-tight suits which were then filmed back-lit against black screens
Despite only containing around 15 minutes of computer generated footage, Tron marked the most ambitious use of CGI technology in any film made up until that point
It's true that some of the computers used to bring the film to life only used 2mb of memory (modern smart watches have around 512mb of memory) and contained just 330mb of storage
It anticipates issues we are still grappling with today: artificial intelligence, digital identity, privacy, personal data, the dominance of big tech
Tron was also the first attempt to visualise the digital realm itself – what was then called “cyberspace” but might now be termed “the metaverse”
It really stinks the Academy awards didn't properly recognize the hard craft Tron brought to the table
Thankfully the cult for it has grown and paved the way for modern filmmaking as well as our own leap forward in computer and motion capture/reality technology
This even influenced film-makers such as James Cameron, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, Tim Burton, the Wachowskis (The Matrix bears many similarities to Tron) and former Pixar chief John Lasseter, who once said: “Without Tron there would be no Toy Story.”
I still hoping a third film can happen but they are finishing up a roller coaster at Disney world

Sounds like Corey Burton narrating this trailer.

I saw this trailer at a United Artists theater when I was a pre-teen.
My life would never be the same.

Way better than 95 percent of sci-fi movies made today.
