Callie Loses Custody of Sofia - Grey's Anatomy 12x22

After an emotional custody battle, it is revealed that Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) has lost custody of Sofia Sloan Robbins Torres to her ex wife Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) on Grey's Anatomy 12x22 (Mama Tried).

I feel bad for Callie but I'm so glad Arizona won, she had no right to take that baby all the way across the country from her other mom, who she definitely would've missed

One of the my favorite moments is when Arizona says (in response to Callie's lawyer) that no one could ever imply that Sofia was not her daughter. That when Callie got pregant there was a choice - she could stay or she could run. She says she chose motherhood and that it was the best choice she had ever made. I just get the chills with that scene cause it's so true.

The reason Callie lost:
Callie spent the hearing having her lawyer bash Arizona.
Arizona spent the hearing proving how much she loves Sofia.

Callie looked childish and irresponsible. She handed over full custody when she was trying to make Arizona look unfit instead of proving why she was fit.

What happened to Callie? She went so downhill after the plane crash, acting like the biggest victim when she wasn’t even there. And then she tries to move across the country with a woman she’s known for 3 months. She didn’t even consult Arizona before picking schools for Sofia. She was so horrible all the way through the trial, insulting her as a doctor, her trivia nights with Richard and trying to say Arizona wasn’t as much of a parent as her because she’s not biological. She brought that on herself and Arizona absolutely deserved custody.

callie was too confident and in the end she paid for it. from the very beginning she was thinking about what she wanted and what was good for her and she didn't think about her child. the judge chose the right mom. end of story.

Callie cared more about hurting Arizona than full custody of Sofia.

I love Callie but I was on Arizona's side. For some people saying it's just a show and it doesn't matter, yea that may be true, but when you're emotionally attached to the characters, it becomes more than just a show. This is a real issue for a lot of people. Just because Arizona isn't Sofia's biological mother doesn't make her any less of a mother. She is just as much Sofia's mom as Callie is. When Callie is crying and Meredith is comforting her and she pulls her hand away from Penny is when Callie realized that Penny isn't worth it and all of this was for nothing. She didn't have to take Arizona to court. The custody trial didn't have to happen. This is very out of character for Callie. I feel like she changed because of Penny because the Callie of previous episodes and seasons wouldn't have done this. She wouldn't have even thought to take Sofia away from her mom and the people she's known her whole life. Callie Torres is not a selfish character but she was definitely acting like one. Even Bailey told her she was essentially giving up her career to follow a girl to the other side of the country. Arizona looked kind of sad when she gave Callie the plane tickets but she loves her so much she was willing to let her go. Even though she won't be in season 13, I'm hopeful that Sara will return for another season or the finale. Her exit didn't seem final. It didn't do Sara or Callie justice at all. Sara Ramirez is a phenomenal actress and I'm going to stop now before I write a whole essay on the character of Callie Torres and Sara Ramirez.

They should have got joint. Callie's reaction is utterly heartbreaking. Agree with what she was trying to do or not, no mother should have to go through that pain. Sofia is all Callie had left, her last connection to Mark. My heart broke.

I didnt like how Torres didnt accept Penny's hand in the end. It was all her own fault. She wanted this, she wanted to go away with teh eprson she loves with her child, she can not blame Penny for what just happened when everyone around her told her how badly that could end up

Callie decided to flip her life upside down to be with a girl she's only known for several months. And that is completely fine, because that is her life. But she can't just flip Sophia's life upside down as well just so she can pursue a new relationship. Sophia has her home in Seattle, her friends, all her Aunts and Uncles from the hospitals. Callie didn't try to understand Sophia's perspective and devastation all the changes would have on her. If anything it should have been Callie who got to see Sophia on summers and school breaks.
