People really don't know, this system barely rehabilitates anyone or "stops crime". Let em know!

The fact that the abolition of slavery had an asterisk on it is the most American thing I've ever heard

this video is so so so well made. this should be everyone's opener to abolition. clear, concise, compelling. and i can't tell you how much I appreciate the captions. I wish this tiktok style of captioning would become the norm cuz it's both cute and accessible.

That was a real eye opener! I only hope that we will move towards this idea of prison abolition. My brother was in Rikers Island for credit card fraud and hes severely mentally ill. He was beaten up by an inmate while the COs looked away for having a big mouth. They left in his cell for hours and never took him to the hospital. My mother had to send him money to buy food and things to give the other inmates so he wouldnt be beaten or killed. My brother is also white, i cant imagine what happens to the poor souls who are POC. I hate the "justice" system in this country.

I grew up near a zoo (like, two blocks away) that housed a couple of peacocks who were allowed to freely roam the premises. I woke up one morning to peacock song that was weirdly louder than usual. I looked out the window into my backyard, and saw a peacock there, just staring up at me. Those birds are no joke.

This video deserves an award. I don’t know from who or what kind, but the excellence here needs to be recognized

I watched the original video, but I'm here to show support by watching again. This is good stuff.

I live in a small town in Oregon, population about 25000. I was shocked when I found out the police department is 75% of the city's budget.
That doesn't even include revenue from tickets and fines.
Even worse I've heard from people who have been on city council or worked for the city and there's an entire network of locals organized to protect the police from scandals and basically destroy anyone who dares to criticize them.

I remember the first time I saw you on any platform was when you went to talk to TYT, about this very topic. Your phrase that nobody will uproot their deeply help beliefs the first time they see cracks was on full display with that conversation. I remember how triggered the host was when you reminded him that everyone Can fall for pro cop propaganda.

Im saving this in a playlist so i can show this to people who don't understand when i try to explain abolition, even people who've been through the system.

I actually supported my ex getting a shorter sentence with lesser charges for some of these reasons.

Also i think its neat that teen vogue is talking more about social issues

THANK YOU OLAY for making this. As you probably know, a lot of people when you simply say "prison abolition" freeze up and get scared. With this video I have an easy YouTube link to explain it far more eloquently than I could. Thank you!

I appreciate you reuploading this segment of your copaganda video. I had to get my friends to hush up and hear you out at first. They thought o was crazy. 🤣😂 But now they think you’re a genius!❤❤ Thank you for explaining this so well.

You are so fucking incredible. Every video of yours I've watched has had some of the most concise, gripping, tightly woven and convincing writing I've ever heard. I'm so fucking in awe of this channel.

I was recently made aware of this topic and am very intrigued, the obvious question I had was
“what about the rapists and murderers”
I was excited to hear that exact question posed here in this video.
Unfortunately, the question was not answered. The host merely proceeded to point out everything that is wrong with the current system, and even sprinkled in a little victim blaming. Yes, we know that the current system isn’t working, that’s why we’re here watching this video, what is the alternative that this movement offers? “Prevent it from happening”, I love that idea, but what, specifically, is the solution for someone who is found to be a murder or rapist, or a serial murder or rapist, or perhaps a serial murder or rapist whom is affected with psychopathy or sociopathy? There are some people in this world, usually through no fault of their own, that are mentally unable to participate in society without harming others. What specifically does this movement do with someone who has committed a murder or rape.
My question remains unanswered

Shared! This is great stuff, a clear, well structured, readily digestible presentation on a topic people shy away from because it sounds scary.

Straight, White, Cisgender Woman here and I totally agree. Any organizations that discriminate against people for things they can't change should be Abolished. Including Police and Prisons.

For further reading, There is a great pamphlet called "What about the rapists" that explores the topic as well!
