To make this help on conservation more... The psychoactive substance in Peyote is only found in the green, above ground portion of the cactus. If you slice the top part off level with the ground, the root will continue living and will re-sprout not one, but multiple new buttons. If people would do that instead of pulling up and wasting the root portion (as it has no psychoactive properties), it could benefit the plant in the longer term, instead of wiping it out.

I took my one and only Peyote trip back in 1981. Absolutely unforgettable and in a way the most fun I ever had and I don't want to have that much fun again😵‍💫

It is a pity that cultivating peyote is illegal in so many countries, here in the UK is perfectly legal to have it as ornamental plant, and it is a great cactus for indoor cultivation: I have been growing one for about 5 years now, it is still very small but flowers every year, the blue-green colour is really rare among cacti and the flower are absolutely gorgeous. Very easy to keep, needs watering only every 2 - 4 weeks and its small size makes it ideal for cultivation on windowsills even in the smallest apartments!!! It is definitely one of my favourite plants at home, not to talk about the fact that this cactus doesn't have spines so you can handle very easily!!!

Imagine making it illegal to eat a plant. The world is insane.

I tried it at a "Peyote Way" ceremony on Mt. Lemon. It was a prayer service for healing some local natives. I was a guest of a local. It was an incredible experience. I was raised LDS. I was 19 tripping on medicina. People singing prayer songs. I prayed as I was taught. I felt blessed to participate. I know Natives here in Texas who use it for their religious ceremonies. Respect the Gift.

"The little hairy things coming out of the bumpy parts." Yeah, I may be almost 50, but I still had a "back in junior high" snicker at that statement.

The peyote: I'll develop a bunch of alcaloids to taste horrible and protect myself from herbivores.
Herbivore mum to calf: don't munch on that thing, it tastes horrible!
Human: it tastes horrible, but I will try it all the same.
Human (after a while): ""the hills are alive with the sound of peyote's music...""

Ok since no one is gonna mention the obvious I guess I'll do it.

I have used this magical cactus to travel through my mind on my treks through the desert. It helped me to appreciate the wonders of, and need to protect, the natural flora and fauna. They have spirit They are priceless.
Happy Trails.

Humans are like "joke's on you I'm into that". Come to think about it, we do that a lot.

A terrific way to consume peyote that I learned many years ago:
Take however many buttons you plan to consume (either fresh or dried), and place them in a blender along with a full glassful of regular grape juice. (And don’t ask me what size glass! - Your the one who’s going to be drinking it!)
Blend the peyote together with the grape juice until it is completely liquefied.
Filter this through a piece of cheesecloth into your glass. If you don’t have any cheesecloth lying around, anything can be used in place of it. I remember using an old bedsheet once. 😂
Then consume!
That’s all there is to it! You will barely notice the bitterness of the peyote at all.
Also, a fair warning! - Almost everyone that consumes peyote will inevitably throw up once. Don’t be alarmed should this occur! It is normal for the human stomach to want to reject this foreign substance that you just ingested and the effects of the drug will not be diminished should this occur.
Have fun! 🌵

I believe peyote cacti can be grafted atop San Pedro cacti, which can accelerate the growth rate of the buttons.
Plus San Pedro also produce mescaline and associated analogues. Answers the question no one was asking: How can you make a columnar cactus appear even more phallic?

I have more than hundred of these growing. Some of them are 12 years old, 3 inches wide and they are flowering like their lives depend on it.
Real beautiful and the bees love em as well.
I grew em all from seed.

I have stumbled upon a couple of these little guys here where i live while mountain biking near the sierra, and i never noticed it was peyote until i saw one flower and realized what it was.

I love this channel! I live in the American South West and would love to hear more about the Joshua Tree and Cholla cactus

We need to discuss *PALM OIL* and how deforestation effects critically endangered apes. It's a complicated topic because the oil is an important economic export for regions like Borneo, but it's terribly harmful to the local wildlife. Alternatives, solutions, and other historic facts about Palm trees would be great too! Please and thank you!
