Hope you got the answer to my question, I'm debating on buying an older 288 off marketplace that's got low hours and been very well-maintained over the years vs a brand new 585xp... They rave about older saw being indestructible, they don't build them like that anymore, but does that mean today's saws with all the electronics and auto tuning are just not designed to last? New would probably cost twice as much but not sure if buying an older saw is gonna turn into a money pit down the road...
Aside from that, performance wise, how do older saws in general compare to today's? Sorry I'm asking a lot of questions but it's always best to get educated first before making a decision.

yes, under the clutch, hard to see and adjust, but it's there.

I'm looking for a chainsaw for a mill and was told a 395xp is the one to go with, but I do have an option to buy a 288xp, rebuilt. Any reason for me to go for the 395xp which would be a few $ more?

is there any difference between the 288xp high top and a 288xp ? I have the opportunity to buy one but not sure which one to get the high top is 125$ more at 550$. both have been freshly rebuilt

The added muffler port is going to get hot on the operators hand the way thats done. Also skip tooth is a better chain. I didn't understand that comment myself until I started running them. They clear chip better, chain speed stays higher and so they will cut faster with less wear on the saw. Also, when you go to sharpen it it's less work. Anything bigger than 20" I prefer skip chain.

Wow and to think I bought mine because it was the only used one on the shelf for $499 (i needed the 36" bar )
Why do you pull on the recoil while shutting it down? my on/off switch doesn't work anymore so I just choke it out

Have a 1995 288xp 36 inch bar, ,   (original owner)  trying to locate a video how to replace trigger (fuel), , ,   looks like you have to split the case to replace???
