for context its not a devil hole its a whirlpool they can get a lot wider in a quick time so its not a good idea to drive the boat over it also if big and strong enough it will bring that boat to the bottom if you jump in a big enough one if will suck you to the bottom where you will probably drown as it is hard to escape it can open up under you
