Solar Eclipse Data Logger with Arduino

In this video I show you how I built a solar eclipse data logging device.

We all know that it gets dark outside when the moon covers the sun, but did you know that there is a significant drop in temperature too? I didn't! This new found knowledge inspired me to build a real time temperature and light level logging device. I used an Arduino Nano, SD card module, DS1307 temperature and humidity sensor, and a photo resistor.

Thanks for watching this video. Be sure to check out my other videos for more content like this. If you enjoy watching these videos, please consider subscribing to the channel. If you don't like these videos, that okay too. YouTube has plenty of other stuff you might like.

I have been looking for this for a long time. I am trying to layout my garden and want to record the light in different areas. Once I get setup I thinking of building one for each of my low tunnels and green houses. I hope it's as easy as you make it look. just need to find the proper wiring size and a box to put it in. I can't wait to get started. Thanks

Hi Zack: Great job. I'm working on monitoring the intensity of daylight during the time and days of a year. You have solved a lot of my issues. Thank you. Gerry

That's pretty cool! I did the same kind of thing. Nice idea putting the humidity sensor and temperature sensor on it. My data logger just used a solar panel to read sum intensity. You should post a video of the resulting data!

you could leave it out for an entire day on your terrace or backyard and then compare the readings you got with the hourly predictions that google gives you for humidity and temp. this done on a long term could potentially unearth local deviations from the forecast and hence the error margin in real time...and maybe could help meteorology perform better :p

Hi. Im going to Chile to see the eclipse and would love to have this for data collecting but i dont know about electronic boards or software. If i get the materials, would you help me set it up via skype? Thanks
