At 19 I applied for social security because I'm disabled so I received SSI and later when my mother retired I received some of that as well. Unfortunately 2017 I lost my mom and then began to receive a bit more. So watching this has made things clear to me.

The mantra is patience when you start the CDB process! My daughter's dad and I are divorced, and she is my dependent, which added another wrinkle.

I feel fortunate that an SSA agent volunteered the information about CDB when I called to set up my own Medicare account and mentioned that my daughter was on SSI and her dad was already on SS. It took over a year for the SSA to finally process and approve my daughter's application for CDB under her dad's work record, mainly because we didn't fill something out accurately on the first pass. However, once it was approved, they went back 3 years to when my daughter would have qualified since her dad had been collecting for all that time, and because it was more than 2.5 years, she got Medicare at the same time. It's worth exploring even if the qualifying event was in the past.

And, I"m really glad to see the Medi-Medi video so I can sort that out!

Don’t call the 800 number for SS, because yes, you will wait on hold. You need to call your local office and depending on where you live, you’ll get through much quicker.
If you’re appealing, typically your lawyer will contact them via email.
I’m 59 and on SSDI. The question that perplexes me is about applying for so called state disability insurance to supplement my income. I’m not sure if that’s just another name for The Department of Social Service. If it is, they have a cap on what you can receive.
It’s really a joke that all these low ball financial limitations are put on people. They’ve convinced people that even 4000 dollars sounds like a lot of money.

UGH! I must be dumb...I love your clear info...But I am so confused. How can they expect single adult Disabled Seniors who stopped working before 70, to live on $1, 101. Most rent and utilities (depending on where you live) adds up to way over that amount. Medicare does not cover 100% my care needs, paying for $185 from my SSI of $1, 286 benefits and having to pay for copays is not possible.
Recently I found out I need hip replacement. Copay to meet surgeon to discuss my xrays, cost me $30...$30 that I did not have. I am forced to cancel any and all future appointments. I was told that the copay of $385 must be paid before surgery is done. And that $58 copay is for anesthesia, $30 copays 3x a week for physical therapy sesstion, and will need to have home care or be in a facility to help me with my care after surgery, because hospitals send you home the next day (after they make sure you can get out of bed😮
Ihave no one to do any of this.
Ican no longer work, and am in constant pain.
I just don't think I can even hear anymore of any ear piercing hold music/ messages to only tell me that, I dont qualify for dual coverage and that there is nothing anyone can do about it.

I was a disabled child on SSI. I worked enough to get SSDI a few years later. To make it possible they Approved the bennifits, but took away my trial work period. It was a failed work attempt. Can I get CDB?

I’m 52 I receive SSI currently my spouse was receiving retirement benefits. My benefits were reduced. I worked using the ticket to work program after my spouse was diagnosed with sage 4 lung cancer. I had a nervous breakdown and my disability benefits came long before I was married. SSA told me that I didn’t qualify for my spouse’s benefits and they only re enstated my SSI a couple months ago. I’m still confused about everything I was married 2 times both marriages lasted 10 years both received retirement benefits

I had no idea about this program until about a month ago. I was contacted out of nowhere by my local social security office where are they informed me that I have to apply for this program. And that it was the law that I have to apply for this program. I have been receiving SSI since the age of 13 because I am legally blind and my parents were very poor and had no substantial assets of any kind. I live in the state of Georgia and receive $943 a month. I am not sure how much I will receive because my father passed away before retirement age back in 2014. He always worked in construction and never made any substantial amount of money. I did not even know he was paying into Social Security because he never paid taxes. The only thing I can figure is that the people he worked for were paying into social security for him. I was wondering is there a minimum amount someone will be paid from Social security? Also will I be entitled to any sort of back payment dating back to his original retirement age?

Hello Ellen. I am a California resident with a progressive disability and I have been surviving on SSDI solely because of my work history and make $2, 000 + a month before deductions. That is my only sort of income and I have been unable to work for 30 years. Anyway I've been surviving on SSDI using it to pay rent and buy food, etc. Now because my disability is progressive I need a caregiver through IHSS and medical. Well in order for me to receive medical I need to provide a monthly share of cost which is over $1, 000 a month and I cannot do that. Are there any programs or flaming loops I need to jump through, I can't jump very high. But your help will be greatly appreciated.
