Wood skewers work great too and are thin enough for most small holes.

Been using golf tees to fix stripped screw holes for years. Learned from my uncle who was a carpenter fifteen years ago.

Try bamboo shish-kebab skewers and Tite Bond Quick and Thick glue. If a hole is really big, you can use multiple skewers. If the hole was not drilled appropriately, you can cheat one or two skewers to the opposite side to realign it. A cheap pair of micro flush cutting pliers works well to cut the skewers to length once glued in without unseating if the glue is not dry.

I've done something similar in the past. I stuffed steel wool in the screw hole and dabbed slow curing (5 min) super glue on the screw. It has held up well on full size door hinges. Don't know where I got the idea from.

I heard wooden dowels work well, you can get them pretty cheap at any craft store.

Another option I do myself is I have spare cabinet screws on me. I get them from Richeliue.
