On this day, the 9th of Feb 2021, the War of Right Community Regiment, the 51st NY volunteer Infantry, is celebrating its one-year anniversary. As a way to celebrate, this video has been made. This is a brief history of the 51st NY. Enjoy!

In the year of 1861, the 51st NY Volunteer Infantry was formed. Made up of six Shepard Rifles companies, two Scott Rifles companies, and two Union Rifles companies, the 51st NY was not undermanned. Due to the majority of the regiment being Shepard Rifles companies, the 51st NY’s nickname is the Shepard Rifles. Colonel Edward Ferrero along with Major Robert B. Potter, who was later promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel, were placed in command of the regiment. By the end of the war, nine of the regiment’s officers either killed or wounded.

The regiment took part in many engagements, including, but not limited to the Second Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of South Mountain, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, and the Battle of the Wilderness.

By the end of the war, 925 men of the 51st NY were killed, wounded, or missing.

In the description below, you can find links to the sources used in this video. Though, I cannot be sure if they are accurate, they do include some more information about the 51st NY Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

You can find a link to the regiment’s discord below, should you wish to join. We accept people from all over the world, but we do communicate in English. All you have to do is fill out a very simple form, which should take about 30 seconds.

Please remember to like the video, subscribe to the 51st NY YouTube channel, and turn on those bell notifications, so you never miss out on a new video. Also, consider checking out my personal channel, The Phantom 86, linked below. Happy anniversary to the 51st NY, and may we continue to grow.

My great-grandfather, Dennis McNamara, enlisted in the 51st New York in August of 1861 and served for all four years of the war. He marched in the victory parade in Washington in May 1865. He was wounded at Petersburg. The Union forever!
